Old El Paso Taco Shells

Old El Paso is a globally recognized Tex-Mex brand with a history dating back to 1917, when the Mountain Pass Canning Company was founded in New Mexico. The brand name 'Old El Paso' was officially trademarked in 1938. Over the decades, it evolved from a local canning operation into a world leader in Mexican-inspired cuisine, known for its taco shells, meal kits, and sauces.

While the brand has American roots, its manufacturing is highly decentralized to serve international markets. For Europe, including Spain and the UK, the majority of products (including taco shells and tortillas) are manufactured at General Mills' large production facility in San Adrián, Navarra, Spain. This plant is a strategic hub that exports to dozens of countries worldwide. Ownership has shifted through several major food giants over the years, passing from Pet, Inc. to Pillsbury, and finally to General Mills in 2001.
