The brand name itself is an acronym derived from the Zellstoffabrik Waldhof, which was established in Germany in the 1880s. Over the decades, Zewa has become synonymous with softness and strength in paper products such as toilet paper, kitchen towels, and facial tissues like the 'Softis' line pictured here.

Today, the brand is owned by Essity, a leading global hygiene and health company headquartered in Sweden. Essity was spun off from the larger SCA (Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget) group in 2017 to focus exclusively on hygiene products. Manufacturing for Zewa products occurs across several European locations to ensure local supply chains, with major production facilities situated in Germany, Austria, and various Central European countries to serve regional markets effectively.
