Amarula is a world-renowned cream liqueur that originates from South Africa. It is uniquely crafted from the fruit of the Marula tree, which grows wild across the sub-Saharan African plains. The brand was first launched in 1983 as a clear spirit before the iconic cream-based version was introduced in 1989. The liqueur is famous for its association with African elephants, which are known to travel great distances to feast on the Marula fruit.

The production process remains deeply rooted in its country of origin, where the sun-ripened Marula fruit is harvested, fermented, and distilled. The spirit is then aged in French oak for two years before being blended with fresh cream. While originally established by the Southern Liqueur Company of South Africa, the brand is currently owned by Distell Group Limited. In a major industry shift, Distell was acquired by the consumer goods giant Heineken N.V., making Heineken the ultimate owner. This acquisition has helped expand the global footprint of 'The Spirit of Africa,' ensuring its presence in over 100 countries while maintaining its authentic South African manufacturing base.
