The original design was inspired by the Zori, traditional Japanese sandals made of fabric straps and rice straw soles, which is why the footbed of Havaianas features a textured rice pattern. Throughout the decades, the brand transformed from a basic utility item for workers into a global fashion powerhouse known for its vibrant colors and high-quality rubber soles. Most authentic Havaianas are still manufactured in Brazil at the Alpargatas factory in Campina Grande, though the brand has a presence in markets across the globe. Today, the brand is owned by the Brazilian holding company Itaúsa, alongside other major investment groups, maintaining its deep-rooted Brazilian heritage while operating as a global leader in the footwear industry.
