Originally created in 1954 in Marcq-en-Barœul, France, it was the result of a machine accident that produced long candies instead of squares. The product is primarily manufactured in France, specifically at the historical factory in Marcq-en-Barœul.

Over the decades, the brand has changed hands several times, having been owned by Danone, Cadbury, and Mondelēz International. Since 2017, the brand has been part of Carambar & Co, which was formed following the acquisition of several confectionery brands from Mondelēz by the French investment firm Eurazeo. Today, it remains a staple of French confectionery culture under French ownership.
