Pilsner Urquell lager beer

Pilsner Urquell is the world's first pale lager, famously first brewed in 1842 in the city of Plzeň (Pilsen), in what is now the Czech Republic. It defined the 'pilsner' style of beer, characterized by its golden color, clarity, and the characteristic bitterness of Saaz hops. To maintain its historical authenticity and quality standards, the beer continues to be produced primarily in its original location in Plzeň, using traditional methods and local ingredients.

Historically owned by the Burgerliches Brauhaus, the brewery went through several ownership changes during the 20th century. Following a period under SABMiller, the brand was acquired by Asahi Group Holdings of Japan in 2017 as part of a significant divestment of European brands by AB InBev. Today, while it remains a cultural icon of the Czech Republic and is still brewed in its home city, it is part of the global portfolio of one of Japan's largest beverage conglomerates.
