Pantene is one of the world's most recognizable hair care brands, originally founded in Switzerland in 1945 by Hoffmann-La Roche. The name 'Pantene' refers to panthenol, a key ingredient discovered during World War II for treating skin burns, which was found to be beneficial for hair health.
Today, Pantene is owned by Procter & Gamble (P&G), an American multinational consumer goods corporation that acquired the brand in 1985. While the brand has Swiss origins, most of the manufacturing for the European market, including Germany, occurs in France and Romania. As a global brand under P&G's stewardship, it maintains a massive research and development presence aimed at high-volume consumer hair solutions.
