Factor Bikes originated in 2007 as a specialized engineering project by BF1 Systems, a Norfolk-based motorsport firm that supplied carbon fiber and electronics to Formula 1 teams like Ferrari and Aston Martin. The brand initially served as a showcase for aerospace-grade engineering, producing the groundbreaking Factor 001. In 2015, the brand was acquired by Rob Gitelis, a manufacturing expert and former racer, alongside retired pro cyclist Baden Cooke.

Today, Factor is renowned for its vertical integration, meaning it owns and operates its own manufacturing facilities rather than outsourcing. Production takes place in its dedicated factories located in Taichung, Taiwan, and Xiamen, China. Ownership has evolved significantly in recent years; as of 2025, a majority stake (approximately 52.87%) is held by Chinese investors, specifically Zhonglu Advantage Global Investment Co., Ltd. (through its subsidiary Forever Bicycles) and VSI Cycling Limited, with Rob Gitelis and seven-time Grand Tour champion Chris Froome remaining as prominent co-owners and directors.
