The TP-Link Tapo C520WS is a high-definition outdoor security camera under the Tapo brand, which was launched by the global networking giant TP-Link. Originally established in Shenzhen, China, in 1996, TP-Link has grown into one of the world's leading providers of consumer networking and smart home products. The Tapo brand specifically focuses on making smart home technology accessible and user-friendly for a global audience.
Historically, TP-Link operated as a Chinese-owned entity; however, in a strategic move completed in October 2024, the company separated its global operations from its original Chinese parent, TP-LINK Technologies Co., Ltd. The global business is now under TP-Link Systems Inc., headquartered in Irvine, California, and owned by Jeffrey Chao and his family. Despite this corporate restructuring to a U.S.-based parent company, the primary manufacturing for most Tapo products, including the C520WS model, continues to be centered in China, where the company maintains large-scale production facilities.
