Spontex is a globally recognized household cleaning brand, famous for its range of sponges, cloths, and gloves. The brand originated in France in 1932, following the invention of the first viscose sponge. The name itself is a portmanteau of 'sponge' and 'textile'. Historically, it was developed by a company that would eventually become part of the Hutchinson Group.
Today, Spontex is a major player in the mechanical cleaning tools market. While the brand maintains a strong European heritage with significant operations in France and the UK, many of its modern textile-based products, like this microfiber cleaning pad, are manufactured in China to leverage global specialized textile production. The brand is currently owned by Newell Brands, a leading American consumer goods conglomerate that acquired the brand through its purchase of Jarden Corporation in 2016.
