Lassie is the leading rice and grain brand in the Netherlands, with a history dating back to 1893. The brand was established in Wormer, North Holland, originally as a steam-powered pearl barley mill founded by the brothers Albert and Jacob Adriaan Laan. In 1954, they introduced rice to the Dutch market under the name 'Lassie'. The factory and its iconic concrete silo, built in 1912, remain in use today in Wormer, where the products are still processed and packaged.

Over the decades, ownership of the brand shifted through several major food corporations. It was part of the Dutch company Douwe Egberts, which later became part of the American Sara Lee Corporation. In 2005, Sara Lee sold the brand to the Spanish Grupo SOS, and subsequently, in 2011, it was acquired by the Spanish multinational Ebro Foods. Today, Lassie operates as a key subsidiary of Ebro Foods, maintaining its status as a household staple in Dutch kitchens while benefiting from the global resources of one of the world's largest rice producers.
