The brand was originally created by Celsal SA, a company based in Rosario, Santa Fe. Over the decades, it has become synonymous with quality and tradition, particularly in the context of the Argentine 'asado' or barbecue culture.

In the year 2000, the brand underwent a significant change in ownership when Celsal SA merged with Industrias Químicas y Mineras Timbó S.A., which remains the ultimate owner today. Timbó is a prominent Argentine family-owned enterprise led by Alfredo Gusmán. The salt itself is harvested from natural salt flats in Argentina, specifically from the Salinas Grandes in Tucumán and the Laguna Colorada Grande in La Pampa province.
