Melrose's is a historic Scottish tea brand with roots dating back to 1812, when Andrew Melrose established a tea importing business in Edinburgh. Known for its 'De Luxe Quality' and distinct red packaging with a tartan accent, the brand holds a significant place in British tea history, as Andrew Melrose was the first UK merchant outside of London to legally import tea from China independently of the East India Company.
While the original Andrew Melrose & Company ceased independent operations in 2004, the Melrose brand name and its heritage are currently managed by the Edinburgh Tea & Coffee Company (ETCC). ETCC itself was formed in 1990 following a management buyout of the Melrose Tea Company. Today, the tea is produced and blended in the United Kingdom, specifically at facilities in Edinburgh, Scotland, using leaves sourced globally from traditional tea-growing regions such as India and China. The brand remains a popular export, particularly in markets like Iceland, where it has maintained a loyal following for generations.
