Abba Senapssill

Abba Senapssill is a classic Swedish seafood product consisting of pickled herring in a creamy mustard sauce. The brand's history dates back to 1838 when it was founded by Christian Gerhard Ameln in Bergen, Norway, before moving its operations to Stockholm, Sweden, in the 1850s. The name 'Abba' (an abbreviation of AB Bröderna Ameln) was officially registered in 1906.

Today, the product is primarily manufactured in Kungshamn, a coastal town on the west coast of Sweden, which has served as the heart of Abba's production for decades. The brand has undergone several ownership changes throughout the 20th century, including periods under Volvo and Procordia, before becoming a part of the Norwegian conglomerate Orkla ASA in 1995.

As of 2026, the brand remains under the ultimate ownership of Orkla ASA, headquartered in Oslo, Norway. Locally in Sweden, it is managed by Orkla Foods Sverige AB. Despite sharing a name, the seafood brand is famously unrelated to the Swedish pop group ABBA, though a naming agreement was reached between the two entities in the 1970s.
