Volcom is a globally recognized lifestyle brand rooted in the action sports community, specifically surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. Founded in 1991 in Orange County, California, by Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall, the brand became famous for its 'Stone' logo and its counter-culture ethos.
Over the decades, Volcom has undergone several ownership changes. It was acquired by the French luxury group Kering (formerly PPR) in 2011. In 2019, Kering sold the brand to Authentic Brands Group (ABG), a major brand management firm based in New York. While the brand maintains its creative and design heritage in the United States, its manufacturing is largely outsourced to facilities in Asia, including China, to meet global distribution needs. In 2025, the brand's retail licensee, Liberated Brands, made headlines due to restructuring, but the brand remains under the ultimate ownership of Authentic Brands Group.
