Penhaligon's Fragrance

Penhaligon's is an esteemed British perfume house with a legacy dating back to the late 1860s. Founded by William Henry Penhaligon, a Cornish barber who moved to London and became the Court Barber and Perfumer to Queen Victoria, the brand is synonymous with Victorian elegance and eccentric British charm. Its first fragrance, Hammam Bouquet, was inspired by the sulfurous steam of the Turkish baths where William initially worked on Jermyn Street.

Historically, the brand's manufacturing was rooted in England, a tradition that continues today with many of its prestige scents still bottled in the UK. However, following its acquisition by the Spanish fashion and fragrance giant Puig in 2015, production has expanded to include facilities in Spain and other European locations to support its global distribution. Despite this international growth, the brand maintains its headquarters in London and heavily emphasizes its British heritage through its storytelling and classic bottle designs.

Ownership of Penhaligon's has transitioned through several hands, including Geo. F. Trumper and businesswoman Sheila Pickles, before being acquired by Puig. Under Puig's stewardship, Penhaligon's has seen a modern revival, particularly through the introduction of the popular 'Portraits' collection, while continuing to hold prestigious Royal Warrants that signify its long-standing relationship with the British Royal Family.
