Naked Juice was founded in 1983 in Santa Monica, California, by Jimmy Rosenberg and David Bleeden, who began by Selling hand-crafted fruit juices from a beach stand. The brand quickly became a pioneer in the premium chilled juice and smoothie category, emphasizing a "naked" approach—meaning no added sugars or preservatives. Over the decades, the brand underwent several ownership changes, moving from its founders to Chiquita, and later to North Castle Partners.
In 2007, PepsiCo acquired the brand to strengthen its health and wellness portfolio. However, in 2021, PepsiCo sold a majority stake in its North American juice business (including Naked and Tropicana) to the French private equity firm PAI Partners for $3.3 billion. This resulted in the formation of the Tropicana Brands Group, where PAI Partners holds a controlling interest and PepsiCo retains a 39% non-controlling stake. Today, Naked Juice continues to operate under this joint venture, with manufacturing primarily centered in California and distribution spanning globally.
