Löwensenf is an iconic German brand of mustard that has been synonymous with quality and tradition since the early 20th century. Originally founded in Metz (which was then part of the German Empire) in 1903 by Otto and Frieda Frenzel, the company moved to Düsseldorf after World War I, where it became legendary for its 'Extra Scharf' (extra hot) variety. The 'Medium' version shown here offers a balanced, spicy profile compared to the original high-heat versions.
Today, the brand is produced in Düsseldorf, maintaining its heritage as a staple of German culinary culture. Ownership has shifted over the decades; it is currently owned by the Develey Senf & Feinkost Group, a major family-owned food company based in Bavaria. Through this stewardship, Löwensenf continues to be manufactured in Germany, adhering to the traditional 'Düsseldorf Mustard' standards of preparation.
