Hofbräu Original is a world-renowned Helles lager produced by the Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in München. Its origins date back to September 27, 1589, when Duke Wilhelm V of Bavaria founded the brewery to provide beer for the royal court, as imported beer was deemed too expensive. The brand has remained deeply intertwined with Bavarian history, playing a crucial role in funding state activities and even surviving sieges during the Thirty Years' War.

Today, the brewery is one of the few remaining independent large breweries in Munich, as it is owned and operated by the Free State of Bavaria. While the historic Hofbräuhaus am Platzl remains the brand's iconic spiritual home and tavern, the actual production was moved to a modern brewing facility in the Munich district of Riem in 1988 to accommodate growing global demand. The beer is brewed in strict accordance with the Reinheitsgebot (Bavarian Beer Purity Law) of 1516, ensuring high-quality standards using only water, malt, and hops.
