The company was founded by Derek Tillotson in 2019, following a successful Kickstarter campaign that captured the interest of the camping community. The concept was born in Tillotson's own backyard and on his family ranch in Utah/Oregon, driven by his personal frustration with the discomfort of traditional curved hammocks.

While the brand is headquartered in Sandy, Utah, where design, testing, and logistics are managed, the manufacturing of the physical products takes place in China. The company partners with specialized overseas factories to produce their patented structural systems and high-quality outdoor fabrics. Today, Haven Tents remains an independent company led by its original founder, continuing to expand its product line with variations like the Haven XL, Haven Safari, and the ultralight Haven Spectre.
