Cardura

Cardura (active ingredient doxazosin mesylate) is a well-known pharmaceutical medication used primarily to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). Originally developed and launched by Pfizer Inc., the brand has a long clinical history dating back to its first U.S. FDA approval in 1990.

In recent years, the ownership and distribution of Cardura have undergone significant corporate restructuring. As part of Pfizer's strategy to focus on innovative biopharmaceuticals, its 'Upjohn' division—which managed established, off-patent brands like Cardura, Lipitor, and Viagra—was spun off and merged with Mylan N.V. to form a new global healthcare company called Viatris Inc. in November 2020. Consequently, while the 'Pfizer' name may still appear on older packaging or in certain markets where Pfizer remains the distributor, the brand's ultimate owner and primary marketer is now Viatris. Manufacturing typically occurs in multiple facilities globally to serve different international markets, including sites in Ireland and other regional pharmaceutical hubs.
