Pågen Hönö is a classic Swedish flatbread, known as 'Hönökaka'. It is inspired by the traditional bread originating from the island of Hönö in the Gothenburg archipelago. Historically, this type of bread was baked by fishing families because its flat shape made it easy to store and carry during long trips at sea.
The brand Pågen was founded in 1878 by Anders and Matilda Påhlsson in Malmö, Sweden. Originally known as A. Påhlssons bageri, the company adopted the name 'Pågen' (the Scanian word for 'boy') in the 1960s to evoke a sense of freshness and youth. Today, Pågen remains a family-owned business, managed by the fourth generation of the Påhlsson family through the holding company Pågen Gruppen AB.
The product is manufactured in Sweden at Pågen's bakeries located in Malmö and Gothenburg. It is made using Swedish-grown flour from the company's own mill, maintaining a close link to its local origins.
