Maxwell House is an iconic American coffee brand founded in 1892 by Joel Owsley Cheek. Its name honors the Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, where the coffee was first served. The brand became globally famous for its slogan, "Good to the last drop," allegedly coined by President Theodore Roosevelt.
Today, the ownership of the brand is split geographically. In North America, it is owned and operated by the Kraft Heinz Company. For the rest of the world, including Europe and the German market where this "Klassisch" variety is sold, the brand is owned by JDE Peet's. JDE Peet's was formed through the merger of D.E Master Blenders 1753 (Douwe Egberts) and the coffee division of Mondelēz International.
Manufacturing occurs in various locations globally to serve local markets. While Kraft Heinz operates a major facility in Jacksonville, Florida, for the North American market, products sold in Europe are typically processed in JDE Peet's European roasting and instant coffee plants located in countries such as Germany or the Netherlands.
