TRESemmé is a globally recognized professional hair care brand with American roots. It was founded in 1947 by the Godefroy Manufacturing Company in Manhattan, New York City, and was named after the renowned hair care expert Edna L. Emme. The brand name is a phonetic play on the French term "très-aimé," meaning "well-loved."
Originally developed for exclusive use in beauty salons, the brand was acquired by Alberto-Culver in 1968, which expanded its availability to retail markets. In 2011, the multinational consumer goods giant Unilever acquired Alberto-Culver and continues to own and manage the brand today.
Manufacturing of TRESemmé products is distributed globally to serve regional markets. Production facilities are located in the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, South Africa, and India, among other locations. This localized manufacturing ensures that the brand can cater to specific regional hair needs while maintaining its identity as a provider of salon-quality results at home.
