The Alessi 9090 is an iconic espresso coffee maker designed by Richard Sapper in 1979 for the Italian design factory Alessi. It was the first espresso maker in Alessi's history and the first Alessi object to be inducted into the Permanent Design Collection at the MoMA in New York. The 9090 is celebrated for its innovative design, which features a heat-reflecting handle and a unique lever-lock mechanism instead of the traditional screw-on base.
Today, the 9090 remains a staple of high-end Italian kitchenware. It is primarily manufactured in Italy at Alessi's production facility in Crusinallo, Omegna. The brand Alessi is a family-owned enterprise that continues to be a world leader in design-led kitchenware and household goods, maintaining its headquarters and core production in Italy to ensure quality and craftsmanship.
