Paula’s Choice is a science-backed skincare brand founded in 1995 by Paula Begoun, famously known as the 'Cosmetics Cop.' Begoun established the brand in Seattle, Washington, after years of investigative journalism and authoring books that debunked common beauty industry myths. The brand built its reputation on transparency, fragrance-free formulations, and the use of research-supported ingredients like retinol, AHAs, and BHAs.
In 2016, the brand was acquired by private equity firm TA Associates. Following a period of significant growth, especially in the direct-to-consumer and digital space, it was subsequently acquired by the global consumer goods giant Unilever in August 2021. Today, Paula's Choice operates as part of the Unilever Prestige division. While it is a global brand with a presence in many markets including Canada, its products are primarily manufactured in the United States using components sourced globally.
