Asda is a major British supermarket chain that offers a vast range of private-label products spanning food, beverages, household goods, and clothing. Its history is deeply rooted in the United Kingdom, specifically originating from a merger of the Asquith family's retail business and the Associated Dairies & Farm Stores Ltd in the 1960s.

While the brand is quintessential to the UK grocery landscape, its manufacturing is globally distributed. Fresh produce and many food items are sourced locally within the UK, but non-food items, textiles (George at Asda), and processed goods are manufactured in various countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas to maintain competitive pricing.

Following its acquisition from Walmart in 2021, the ownership structure shifted toward a combination of British and international private equity. Today, the brand is owned by the Issa brothers and TDR Capital, marking a return to majority UK-based ownership after decades of American control.
