NOW (formerly NOW TV) is a popular subscription-based over-the-top internet television service operated by the British satellite television provider Sky. Launched in 2012, the platform was designed to provide a flexible, contract-free way for viewers to access Sky's premium content, including sports, movies, and entertainment channels. While the service is available in several European countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, and Germany, the digital infrastructure and software development are managed through a global network of data centers.
The service has undergone significant evolution since its inception, rebranding from NOW TV to simply NOW in 2021 to reflect its modern digital identity. Its technological backbone is integrated with the broader Sky Group platform, which utilizes advanced streaming protocols to deliver high-quality content across a wide range of devices including smart TVs, gaming consoles, and mobile applications.
Ownership of NOW has followed the trajectory of its parent company, Sky. After a high-profile bidding war in 2018, the American media conglomerate Comcast acquired Sky, bringing NOW under the umbrella of one of the world's largest telecommunications and media giants. This ownership ensures that NOW benefits from extensive content partnerships and technical innovation shared with Comcast's other assets, such as NBCUniversal and Peacock.
