Rexona is one of the world's most recognized personal care brands, specializing in high-performance antiperspirants and deodorants. The brand was founded in Australia in 1908 by Alice Sheffer, the wife of SF Sheffer, the founder of the Sheldon Drug Company. It was originally launched as a curative ointment before evolving into the personal hygiene powerhouse it is today.
Manufacturing for Rexona is widely decentralized, with production facilities located in numerous countries to serve regional markets effectively, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, and various sites across Asia and Europe. The brand is known for its proprietary 'MotionSense' technology, which uses microcapsules to release fragrance in response to physical movement.
Regarding its ownership history, Rexona was acquired by the British company Lever Bros in 1929, which later merged with Dutch Margarine Unie to form Unilever. Today, Rexona remains a flagship brand in Unilever's personal care portfolio. In many markets, the product is sold under different names: it is known as Sure in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Degree in North America, Rexena in Japan, and Shield in South Africa.
