Vecchia Romagna is an iconic Italian brandy with a legacy dating back to 1820. It was founded by Jean Bouton, a descendant of a family of distillers to the French royal court of Napoleon I, who moved to Bologna, Italy. He combined French distillation techniques with premium Italian grapes, particularly the Trebbiano variety, to create a unique distillate that eventually became known as the 'Etichetta Nera' (Black Label).

The brand is celebrated for its distinctive triangular bottle and its double-distillation process. For much of its history, it was part of the Buton family legacy until it was acquired by bigger spirits groups. Today, it remains a quintessential symbol of Italian spirit production, exclusively produced in Italy using traditional methods and aged in oak barrels to achieve its signature smooth finish.

Since 1999, Vecchia Romagna has been owned by Gruppo Montenegro, a leading Italian family-owned spirits and food company. This ownership ensures the brand remains deeply rooted in Italian tradition while benefiting from a robust global distribution network. The brand continues to lead the Italian brandy market and is exported worldwide as a premium representative of the 'Made in Italy' label.
