Nextcloud collaboration platform

Nextcloud is a suite of client-server software for creating and using file hosting services. It was created as a fork of ownCloud in 2016 by Frank Karlitschek and several other members of the original ownCloud team. The software focuses on data privacy and security, allowing users to maintain full control over their data by hosting it on their own servers or with trusted providers.

The project is spearheaded by Nextcloud GmbH, located in Stuttgart, Germany. As an open-source platform, its development is supported by a global community of contributors, but the intellectual property and commercial support are managed by the German entity. Nextcloud remains an independent, private company focused on providing a self-hosted alternative to proprietary cloud services like Google Drive or Microsoft 365.
