KFC, or Kentucky Fried Chicken, is a globally recognized fast-food chain headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. It was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders, who began selling fried chicken from his roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky, during the Great Depression. Sanders identified the potential of the restaurant franchising concept, and the first 'Kentucky Fried Chicken' franchise opened in Utah in 1952.

Today, KFC is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, a major global restaurant company that also owns Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. Because KFC operates on a franchise model, its products are 'manufactured' or prepared locally in over 150 countries. While the core secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices is centralized, the physical poultry and ingredients are sourced and prepared by local suppliers and franchisees within each specific market to ensure freshness and regional compliance.
