Kraft food products

Kraft's history in Australia is characterized by iconic products and complex corporate shifts. The brand was established locally in the 1920s through a partnership with Fred Walker, leading to the creation of the Kraft Walker Cheese Co. Over decades, it became synonymous with Australian pantry staples. However, a major global restructure in 2012 saw Kraft Foods split into two entities: Mondelez International (global snacks) and Kraft Foods Group (North American grocery).

In 2017, the Australian grocery business, which included the manufacturing site in Port Melbourne and rights to many local products like Vegemite, was sold to the Australian company Bega Cheese Limited. This sale led to a high-profile legal battle over the 'trade dress' (the iconic yellow lid and label) of peanut butter. While Bega now produces the original recipe under its own name using the familiar packaging, the 'Kraft' brand name itself remains under the ownership of the global Kraft Heinz Company. Today, Kraft Heinz Australia continues to market various products under the Kraft brand, such as dressings and processed cheese, while maintaining a significant manufacturing presence across sites in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria.
