GANT is a premium lifestyle brand with a unique history often described as 'born in America, raised in Europe.' Founded in 1949 by Bernard Gantmacher in New Haven, Connecticut, the company originally specialized in high-quality shirts and is credited with inventing signature features like the 'button-down' collar and the 'locker loop.' The brand became a staple of Ivy League style, gaining immense popularity among students at nearby Yale University.
Over the decades, GANT transitioned from an American family business to a global fashion powerhouse. In the 1980s, the brand's international rights were acquired by Swedish entrepreneurs, leading to its relocation to Stockholm. Today, while it maintains its American heritage in design, its global headquarters remain in Sweden. Its manufacturing is spread across multiple countries, including China, Portugal, India, Turkey, and Vietnam, to cater to its global distribution network.
Since 2008, GANT has been owned by the Swiss holding company Maus Frères (now MF Brands Group). This acquisition solidified GANT's position within a luxury and premium portfolio that includes other notable brands like Lacoste and Aigle, ensuring its continued expansion in the global retail market.
