Burger King is one of the world's most recognizable fast-food chains, primarily known for its flame-grilled burgers. The brand's journey began in 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, as Insta-Burger King, before being purchased and renamed by James McLamore and David Edgerton in 1954. Over the decades, it has expanded into a global powerhouse with thousands of locations across the globe.
While the brand originated in the United States, its manufacturing and supply chain are decentralized. Burger King operates through a franchise model, meaning that ingredients such as beef, poultry, and produce are typically sourced from local or regional suppliers in the countries where the restaurants operate to ensure freshness and comply with local regulations. This results in a "Multiple countries" manufacturing footprint.
Ownership of the brand has changed several times throughout its history. Today, Burger King is a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands International (RBI), a multinational giant headquartered in Canada. RBI was formed in 2014 through the merger of Burger King and Tim Hortons, and it now also owns Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Firehouse Subs. The majority shareholder of RBI is the Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital.
