PG Tips is one of the United Kingdom's most iconic tea brands, originally launched in 1930 by Brooke Bond under the name Pre-Gest-Tee. The name was later shortened to PG Tips to comply with regulations regarding health claims and to highlight the 'tips' of the tea leaves which are known for their flavor. Throughout the 20th century, the brand became a household name facilitated by memorable advertising campaigns including the 'PG Tips Monkeys'.
For decades, PG Tips was a flagship brand of the multinational consumer goods giant Unilever. However, in a major industry shift, Unilever sold its tea division (Ekaterra) in 2022 to the private equity firm CVC Capital Partners. The new company was rebranded as LIPTON Teas and Infusions. Today, the product is primarily manufactured at the long-standing Trafford Park facility in Manchester, United Kingdom, which serves as a central hub for blending and packing the brand's diverse range of tea products distributed globally.
