Grolsch is one of the world's most recognizable beer brands, famed for its iconic 'swingtop' bottle and a history that dates back to 1615. Originally established by Willem Neerfeldt in Groenlo, Netherlands, the brewery became synonymous with Dutch craftsmanship and a distinctive brewing process that utilizes two types of hops. The brand's identity is deeply rooted in its heritage, maintaining a reputation for quality and independence for centuries before entering the global corporate arena.
In the modern era, the ownership of Grolsch has shifted through major international beverage conglomerates. After being acquired by SABMiller in 2008, the brand was later sold to Asahi Group Holdings of Japan in 2016 as part of the divestments required for the AB InBev and SABMiller merger. Today, while Grolsch is primarily brewed at its state-of-the-art facility in Enschede, Netherlands, its international distribution is managed through various partnerships, including Molson Coors in North America. This ensures that the historic Dutch lager maintains a global presence while adhering to its traditional brewing standards.
