Sennheiser is a prestigious German audio brand that has operated since 1945. For decades, it remained a single family-owned entity. However, in 2022, the company completed a significant restructuring by selling its Consumer Electronics division—responsible for consumer headphones, soundbars, and earbuds—to the Swiss hearing care giant, Sonova Holding AG. Following this sale, the original Sennheiser Group (owned by the Sennheiser family) pivoted its focus exclusively to the Professional Audio market, including studio microphones and business communication systems.

Manufacturing for Sennheiser products is distributed globally to maintain specialized quality. High-end audiophile headphones and transducers are primarily manufactured at their facility in Tullamore, Ireland. Professional microphones and premium wireless systems are produced at the headquarters in Wedemark, Germany. Additionally, the company maintains production sites in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA), and Brașov, Romania. Some entry-level consumer models are also manufactured through long-term partner facilities in Asia, specifically China.

As of early 2026, the ownership structure is in a state of transition for consumer products. While Sonova currently owns the consumer hearing division under a perpetual brand license, they announced intentions in March 2026 to divest this business unit to refocus on medical hearing instruments. The professional division remains firmly under the control of the Sennheiser family, with Daniel Sennheiser serving as Chairman of the Board and Andreas Sennheiser as CEO.
