Fischer is a historic French beer brand founded in 1821 by Jean-Joachim Fischer in Strasbourg, Alsace. Originally known as Brasserie de l'Ours Blanc (White Bear Brewery), it was later renamed Brasserie Fischer. The brand is deeply rooted in the Alsatian brewing tradition and is widely recognized for its distinctive 'Fischer Tradition' pilsner and its iconic bottles topped with a swing-top cap.
In 1996, the Fischer group was acquired by the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V. Following the acquisition, production was eventually shifted from the historic Schiltigheim site to other Heineken-owned facilities, primarily the Brasserie de l'Espérance in Schiltigheim, Alsace. Today, Fischer remains a flagship brand in the French market, representing premium Alsatian heritage under global corporate stewardship.
While the brand maintains its French identity and the majority of its production remains in France to preserve its 'Pils' and 'Tradition' designations, as a Heineken global brand, variants may be produced in other licensed facilities depending on the market. The brand continues to emphasize its 19th-century origins through its visual identity and the 'Le Pêcheur' (The Fisherman) logo found on its packaging.
