Founded in 1967 as a joint venture between Wasabröd and the American company Borden Foods, the brand revolutionized the Swedish 'Fredagsmys' (Friday coziness) culture with its range of potato chips and cheese doodles.

Manufacturing primarily takes place at their dedicated production facility in Filipstad, Sweden, where local potatoes are often sourced to maintain quality and flavor profile. Since 2005, the brand has been under the ownership of the Norwegian conglomerate Orkla ASA, which has integrated OLW into its Orkla Confectionery & Snacks division to strengthen its position as a market leader in the Northern European snack industry.
