Licor Beirão is widely considered the national liqueur of Portugal, boasting a history that dates back to the 19th century in the town of Lousã. The product was originally created in a local pharmacy as a medicinal aid, but it gained its modern identity and name during the Beira Congress in 1929. The secret recipe involves a double distillation of seeds and herbs sourced from former Portuguese colonies, including Brazil, Sri Lanka, and India.

Today, the brand remains a family-owned enterprise, managed by J. Carranca Redondo, Lda. The company has successfully transitioned from a traditional regional spirit to a globally recognized beverage, famous for its unique bottle shape draped with a signature ribbon. Production continues to be centralized in Quinta do Meiral in Lousã, where the Redondo family oversees the entire process from botanical selection to bottling, ensuring the legacy of José Carranca Redondo is preserved.
