Duyvis is a historic Dutch brand that has become a cornerstone of the snack culture in the Netherlands. Founded in 1806 by Teewis Duyvis in the Zaan region, the company initially focused on oil milling and cattle feed. Over the decades, it evolved through industrialization, moving into consumer products like salad oils and mayonnaise before finding its definitive success in the snack market during the 1960s. Today, it is most famous for its 'Borrelnootjes' (cocktail nuts) and a wide variety of seasoned peanuts and dip mixes.
The brand has undergone several ownership changes since its family-owned beginnings. It was acquired by Akzo in 1961, followed by Douwe Egberts (then a subsidiary of Sara Lee) in 1987. In 2006, Duyvis was purchased by the American multinational PepsiCo, which continues to own and manage the brand as part of its global snack portfolio. Despite its international ownership, Duyvis maintains a strong Dutch identity, with its primary production facilities still located in Zaandam, Netherlands, where it processes hundreds of tons of nuts weekly for both domestic and international markets.
