Founded in 1668, Merck KGaA is the world's oldest operating chemical and pharmaceutical company. Originating from the 'Engel-Apotheke' (Angel Pharmacy) in Darmstadt, Germany, the brand has grown over three centuries into a global powerhouse in science and technology.

Today, Merck KGaA operates across three primary sectors: Life Science, Healthcare, and Electronics. While it owns the rights to the name 'Merck' globally, an exception exists in the United States and Canada, where those rights are held by Merck & Co. (known as MSD elsewhere), following the seizure of German assets after World War I. Manufacturing is distributed globally, with major production hubs in Germany, the United States, Switzerland, and France to serve its international markets.
