Hoka (formerly Hoka One One) is a globally recognized sportswear brand that revolutionized the athletic footwear industry with its 'maximalist' design philosophy. Founded in 2009 in Annecy, France, by Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard—both former employees of the outdoor company Salomon—the brand was born from a desire to create shoes that allowed for faster downhill running with superior cushioning and stability. The name 'Hoka' is derived from a Māori phrase meaning 'to fly over the earth.'

Following its rapid success among ultramarathon and trail runners, Hoka was acquired in 2013 by Deckers Brands, an American footwear powerhouse headquartered in California. This acquisition shifted the brand's operational base to the United States and provided the infrastructure for massive global expansion. Today, Hoka is a multi-billion dollar brand serving professional athletes and casual walkers alike.

While the brand is American-owned and designed, its manufacturing is diversified across various global hubs. The majority of Hoka shoes are produced in Vietnam and China, leveraging high-tech facilities and specialized footwear expertise in Southeast Asia. Smaller-scale production also takes place in countries like Cambodia, the Philippines, and the Dominican Republic to support its vast international supply chain.
