Brand History and Origin

ChapStick is an iconic American brand of lip balm that traces its roots back to the early 1880s. It was invented by Dr. Charles Browne Fleet in Lynchburg, Virginia. While the original product resembled a small wickless candle wrapped in tin foil, it has since evolved into the world-famous cylindrical applicator that has become synonymous with the category itself.

Ownership and Global Reach

Throughout its long history, the brand has changed hands several times, moving from the Morton Manufacturing Corporation to companies like A.H. Robins, Wyeth, and Pfizer. In 2019, it became part of Haleon (formerly GSK Consumer Healthcare), a joint venture between GSK and Pfizer. In early 2024, Suave Brands Company, a portfolio company of the investment firm Yellow Wood Partners, completed the acquisition of ChapStick, making them the ultimate owners moving into 2026.

Manufacturing and Distribution

The majority of ChapStick production is centered in the United States, particularly through facilities in Richmond, Virginia. However, as a global brand distributed across North America, Europe, and Asia, manufacturing may occur in various regional hubs to meet local demand and supply chain requirements.
