Berghaus is a renowned British outdoor clothing and equipment brand with a rich history rooted in mountaineering. Founded in 1966 by climbers Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison in Newcastle upon Tyne, the brand's name is a German translation of "mountain house." Since its inception, Berghaus has been at the forefront of technical innovation, being among the first to introduce internal frame rucksacks and becoming an early European pioneer in the use of waterproof Gore-Tex fabrics.

Today, the brand is headquartered in Sunderland, England, and is a major player in the global outdoor apparel market. While its design and development take place in the UK—notably through its specialized MtnHaus team—manufacturing is carried out across a global supply chain encompassing several countries to meet international demand.

In 1993, Berghaus was acquired by the Pentland Group, a global brand management company. Under this ownership, Berghaus has continued to expand its reach, supporting elite athletes and mountaineers while remaining a staple for outdoor enthusiasts worldwide. The brand remains a subsidiary of the Pentland Group, sitting alongside other iconic labels like Speedo and Ellesse.
