Tefal Cookware

Tefal is a globally recognized French cookware and small appliance manufacturer, famously known for creating the non-stick cookware category. The brand's name is a portmanteau of the words Teflon and Aluminium. Founded in 1956 by Marc Grégoire in Sarcelles, France, the company revolutionized home cooking by applying PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) to aluminum pans, allowing for food to be cooked with minimal oil and easy cleanup.

While Tefal maintains significant manufacturing facilities in France—where high-end ranges and specialized technologies like the Thermo-Spot are produced—it has expanded its production footprint globally to meet international demand. Today, a large portion of its mass-market products and small electrical appliances are manufactured in China and other specialized hubs.

In 1968, Tefal was acquired by Groupe SEB, a major French consortium that specializes in small domestic appliances. Under Groupe SEB's ownership, Tefal has evolved into the world's leading manufacturer of non-stick cookware, also expanding into products like steam irons, kettles, and pressure cookers. In certain markets, such as the United States, Japan, and Brazil, the brand is marketed under the name T-fal.
