Werther's Original is a world-renowned brand of caramel and butter candies with roots dating back to 1903. The iconic recipe was first developed by confectioner Gustav Nebel in the small German town of Werther, Westphalia. Originally marketed as "Werthers Echte" (Werther's Genuine), the brand transitioned to the name "Werther's Original" in the 1990s to better serve its growing international audience.

Today, the brand remains a flagship of the August Storck company. While the company began in Werther, modern production primarily takes place in specialized facilities in Halle and Berlin, Germany. The brand has maintained a strong heritage of quality, famously using real butter and fresh cream, and has expanded its portfolio to include soft caramels, chewy toffees, and sugar-free varieties while remaining under the stewardship of the founding Oberwelland family.
