The brand was established in 1996 in Hendaye, France, where Decathlon sets its global design center for water sports to test products in real oceanic conditions.

While the design and research and development phases are headquartered in France, the manufacturing of Tribord trousers and other technical gear is outsourced to a global network of suppliers. These production facilities are primarily located in Asia, specifically in countries like China, Vietnam, and Bangladesh, to leverage specialized textile manufacturing capabilities.

Decathlon remains the ultimate owner and distributor of the brand. As a vertically integrated company, Decathlon manages everything from the initial conceptualization of Tribord gear to its retail distribution. The company is owned by the Association Familiale Mulliez, making it part of one of the largest retail empires in the world.
