Sagres is one of Portugal's most iconic beverage brands, originally launched in 1940 to celebrate the Portuguese World Exhibition. Named after the town of Sagres, which is legendary for its association with the Age of Discovery, the brand has become a symbol of Portuguese identity. The 'Mini' variant seen here is a popular 20cl format widely consumed in casual social settings across the country.
Historically, the brand was created by the Central de Cervejas (Centralcer) consortium. Over decades of industry consolidation, the company underwent various ownership changes, including nationalization in the 1970s and subsequent reprivatization. In 2008, the company was acquired by the Heineken Group, one of the world's largest brewing conglomerates. Today, while it remains a deeply rooted Portuguese brand with primary production occurring at the Vialonga brewery near Lisbon, its ultimate strategic and corporate ownership resides with Heineken in the Netherlands.
